My story
I'm Michael Wright and I was 10 years old when I watched someone play drums live for the first time, and my life was changed! I started playing drums soon after in our school band and music became a special part of my life. I played percussion instruments all throughout high school and college and had several teachers that were influential in shaping my music career. I quickly learned the value of mixing hard work with passion through their teachings, and because of them, teaching soon entered the picture for me as well. I began sharing my love for drums through teaching private lessons for drum set and rudimental drumming for school concert and marching bands.
I've always wanted to build my own snare drum but really wasn't sure how to begin the process. My son was in high school band and needed an orchestral snare drum to use for different honor band auditions. I viewed this as the perfect time to jump into the drum building realm. I found out through the process of building this drum that I really enjoyed using my hands to create an instrument and getting the sound I wanted.
With each new build I start with a certain 'sound' in mind. I go through the process of deciding the best way to achieve that sound. I look at the build type, shell material, and heads to help achieve the 'sound.'
What 'sound' are you looking to gain from your snare drum? Let's talk and plan the "Wright" build to find your unique sound that sets you apart from others!
